Emily Schubert was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. Around the age of seven she learned how to tie knot at the end of some thread and has been sewing ever since. She currently attends the Maryland Institute College of Art and will receive a BFA in fiber and textile arts this spring. Her current work focuses mainly on costume and performance with an interest in puppetry. She is inspired by myths and folktales and how these have long helped people make sense of their world. She has studied and participated in ritual theater and contemporary puppetry in Indonesia, as well as political puppet theater with Bread and Puppet and processional events in the United States. She strives to create out of the ordinary moments for the viewer in which they can be caught off guard, and feel, if only briefly, the wonder that still exists in the world. Read Less
