Tony Eräpuro (born 1981) is a graphic designer specialising in the fields of branding, typography, publication and exhibition design. Tony's interest and love for design led him to want to move to the UK in 2004 to obtain his BA (hons) in Graphic Design at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design.

During his university years he was closely tutored by the designers Sarah de Bondt, Patrick Lacey from Åbäke and Professor Phil Baines. These tutors had an important influence on him and put Tony forward to do work placements in his final year before graduating in 2008.

Tony had work placements at Wallpaper* and Elle Decoration magazines which then led to freelancing for Wallpaper* and also resulted in a feature in the Wallpaper* Graduate Directory 2009.

Following a brief period of freelancing post-graduation, which included work for companies such as award winning record industry leader Soundtree, Beyond the Valley shop and fashion designers Heikki Salonen, Daniel Palillo and Terhi Pölkki, Tony's path crossed with the famous engineer and designer Cecil Balmond of Arup London. This led to a long-term work relationship, fuelled by Tony's passion for architecture and Cecil's eye for good graphics. Cecil Balmond and his team "Advanced Geometry Unit" are the engineering masterminds behind acclaimed projects for star architects like Rem Koolhaas, Toyo Ito, Shigeru Ban, Alvaro Siza and Eduardo Souto de Moura. At Arup, Tony worked on projects that introduced new challenges for him. Personal projects for Cecil Balmond, including press materials, book design for Crossover and exhibition design for Element in Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery Japan and In-Site in Casa da Arquitectura Porto, Portugal. Arup AGU work also included branding and competition boards as well as the design of the presentation materials for the winning design bid of the Olympics tower Arcelor Mittal Orbit co-designed by Anish Kapoor and Cecil Balmond.

In 2010, Cecil Balmond set up his own architecture and design studio called Balmond Studio. Cecil ensured Tony followed him and made him the art director responsible of the visual identity of the firm. Balmond Studio work includes the design of the new Targetti Poulsen showroom in Milan Italy and Gretna Landmark in Scotland, amongst others.

After 7 years in England, in 2011 Tony returned to his home town Helsinki. With experience and passion for art, design and architecture Tony likes to work now in different areas of design and keeps pushing for quality equal to that of international top design agencies. Since his return Tony has worked with Finnish award winning creative agencies Bond and Kuudes Kerros. His client portfolio includes companies Altia, Arla, Artek, Helsinki Central Library, Helsinki Festival (Juhlaviikot), Kesko, Nokian Jalkineet and Sanoma Media Finland to name a few. Tony is still retaining his links with London by working on occasional projects commissioned by UK based clients, like the Finnish Institute in London and Nokia. Read Less
