I'm currently a UX Designer at Vertigo Software, where I've been working primarily on Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 media applications. I like to think of myself as an internet architect - someone who can begin with a basic set of requirements, and create a logical, usable, and beautiful structure that fulfills those requirements. It frustrates me to see apps that have done the UX-equivalent of putting the kitchen sink in the bedroom; I love UX because I feel that any time I spend improving a website or app is returned a thousandfold in lessening the confusion and frustration of users.

I recently graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, where I majored in mechanical engineering and moonlighted as a usability artisan. I quickly found my passion in cognitive engineering - the application of cognitive science, psychology, statistics, UX, and other fields to create beautiful and usable items. Read Less

Most of my skills lie in usability testing and design. I've done a number of human-centered, rapid-iteration design projects and usability analyses, and know the formalities of setting up usability tests and other methods of gathering information and feedback. I'm very experienced with using Adobe Illustrator to create wireframes and visual designs, and have some experience with HTML, CSS, and Javascript.

I also have a solid math/science background, courtesy of Cal Engineering. I have plenty of experience with 3d modeling and rapid prototyping, and some in 3d animation. I understand basic mathematics and physics, including multi-variable calculus, linear algebra, thermodynamics, and structural mechanics, and have experience teaching these to other people. I can write lab reports, design experiments, and bring an idea from conception to machine shop to reality.

I've discovered I have somewhat of a talent for explaining complex concepts, spotting usability breakdowns, and taking charge of small group projects. I also have a big interest in educational software, and have been trying to stay abreast of techniques and happenings in that field. Read Less
