Artists and writers don't always see eye to eye. So, you'd expect the constant turmoil that roils in my skull to be more debilitating.

Art and copy have been the gravitational centre of my life since I was old enough to hold a crayon. No matter where I've gone and what space debris life's thrown at me, I've always ended up back on the homeworld of creativity.

From writer and editor-in-chief for a major publication, to copywriter for an ad agency, to marketing and communications for one of the country's largest construction companies, and back again to advertising, copywriting and design – it's been one long, run-on sentence of career changes, industries and opportunities. Most importantly though, there's been a helluva lot of learning.

Just about every decent creative our there will tell you how important the "big idea" is to them. Well, I can't disagree. But I also think the challenges that lead to big ideas need kudos once in a while too. In my experience, the best ideas always come from the best (not always the biggest or the toughest) challenges. Those challenges are the octane in my creative engine.

I'm not the kind of guy who likes to sit back and let other people do the work. If I don't know how to do something, it becomes my life's mission to figure it out. And once I do, chances are there's another challenge in the solution. Yeah, it's exhausting, but it's also incredibly fulfilling. Read Less
