San Diego Zoo

Volunteer Art Teacher

I worked with Joe Nyiri, the art teacher at the San Diego Zoo, who held classes all summer long and a few during the winter. We would go around the zoo and draw the animals. I would help teach the students (ages 3rd grade to adult) on how to construct the shapes to make the animals and how to use techniques to achieve the textures found on the animals, such as feathers and scales. We also created the murals around the zoo, like the Panda Mural (taken down because of the Cat Canyon construction), the Bug House Murals, and more. This was a great experience and further deepened my love for animals and art.
