Shape and color are central themes in my work. My paintings are highly driven by color theory, with whimsical shapes and subjects, stressing the edges between forms, and how to create depth with solid two-dimensional form. Planning and process are integral to the final outcome, and I greatly consider composition prior to executing the work. I am interested in the line between spontaneity and control, simplicity and complexity. I often set rules for myself concerning color or mark, and try to work within those limitations. Oftentimes subject matter comes during the execution of the piece or after its completion, but I also find it helpful to work with something in mind, whether it be a word, concept, or event. I am inspired by forms and palettes that I observe around me, but I often rely on my own imagination. Read Less
