I moved to New Zealand late last year from South Africa where I had pioneered the establishment of several advertising, media and communication companies across the African continent, as well as the development of software and technology for the media procurement industry. I studied Graphic Design (National Diploma) and launched an Advertising Design Agency, followed by a Media Agency. I have travelled the African continent extensively and I am passionately driven and extensively experienced in the marketing and communications industry, specifically with regard to multi-national business's marketing their brands to target consumer audiences.
In addition to a practical foundation in Advertising and Design on multi-national accounts in my own design business, since 2002 I have worked extensively with SABMiller, reporting directly to the Marketing Director (Africa & Asia) and his Brand Managers, with responsibility for the implementation of media focussed communication campaigns for over forty beer brands in Swaziland, Lesotho, Botswana, Zambia, Tanzania, Ghana, Uganda and Kenya, as well as 5 central brands, namely Castle Lager, Castle Milk Stout, Redds, Pilsner Urquell and Millers Genuine Draft. I have worked directly with Standard Bank, Johnson & Johnson, Nestle, Stanbic Bank, Nissan Africa and Nissan Motor Company Japan, Mobile Telephone Networks (MTN) and a host of other clients.
Whilst the core focus of my career has been in the creative industry, from strategy development through to the finished creative product, I have also gained considerable experience in the media segment, from media strategy, planning, implementation and monitoring. The experience gained from this role includes every aspect of communication, marketing, brand positioning, in-trade execution, point of sale, eventing, media and multi-media including SMS/wap and internet campaigns, programme production for broadcast, sponsorships and on-the-ground promotions.
A key element to the success I have had for my clients' brands is that I have l been able to take the learnings from big budget multi-nationals and translate them to meet the requirements of small and medium sized business while maintaining all the effectiveness and efficiency enjoyed by big spending marketers.
