As far back as I can remember, art has been an integral part of my life. My parents first noticed my creative gift when they observed that I was getting pretty good at copying the dinosaurs in my coloring books. Their encouragement helped me start paying more attention to the details of real life, and trying to reproduce those.I definitely spent more of my high school years drawing in class, rather than taking notes.
I began studying graphic design in college, as a means to cultivate new skills and pursue what I love doing. One year, when my wife and I didn’t have extra cash to buy Christmas gifts, I had the idea of expanding my newfound interest in typography to create art out of hand-drawn lettering.

The response to these gifts showed me something important–that the things that bring us the most joy are often the best way we can give joy to others.
Designing brings me peace and rest, clears my mind, and sparks the same kind of fun I used to have when I was a little kid, drawing dinosaurs.

But that joy didn’t come to fruition until it was realized in context to God. After having been awakened to a love for Jesus, I saw how my act of creation could be something bigger than just making art, for fun or a living. It could be something that reflected the Creator.

When the details of life stir me with their beauty or strike me with inspiration, I still have fun expressing it through art. But fun turns into joy when it brings others to share in the experience. Read Less
