Rosemary Collard - Abstract Digital Artist
I would describe my work as abstract visual compositions of invented subjects which are unfamiliar to the viewer but created with familiar graphic elements such as shape, line, colour, dot and pattern. As an art student in Western Australia in the 1970’s I was inspired by the work of Cezanne, Kandinsky and Paul Klee. I thought that its timeless quality came from abstraction and use of absolute elements of design in the compositions. Since then I have been motivated to compose pictures as music is composed.Underpinning all my work is a curiosity, questioning and speculating about all aspects of visual composition. Abstraction allows me creative freedom and the digital medium is the facilitator. However it is important to me to find an aesthetic which is unique to the digital means. I avoid symbolic references in all my artwork and hope this will enable it to have universal appeal. Read Less
