b. 1948 Western Australia - from 2013, living and working in Launceston , Tasmania
A prerequisite for viewing all my art is the need to suspend disbelief, as it is the realistic portrayal of the nonexistent.
For 42 years I have researched ways to compose pictures using only the basic visual elements of art - colour, form, line, shape, space, texture, and value. As a student I was inspired by the work of Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee and held the view that their work and that of the Modernists would always be regarded as contemporary.
My goal since then has been to discover my own style of abstraction based on the principles of Modernism.
My approach is either to complete a work in one sitting or to compose a more complex picture which will require days, if not weeks. I like to practice both disciplines.
However all work begins life as a chaotic selection of various design elements. One or two will become the linchpin/s for the overall design or composition to keep me focused. These may have been the original inspiration for the work but sometimes they attract my attention as the work is in progress. My goal is to find order in chaos - to create what I hope will be a cohesive whole.
Abstraction gives me the ultimate freedom to do this - the digital medium simply augments this.
PRINTED WALL WORKS of my artwork will now be available to order @ Art Lovers Australia
