Chris Mizen

Intern and Freelance Designer

Wickford, United Kingdom
I am a recent Graphic Design graduate based in Essex, close to London. I studied at the Cambridge School of Art at Anglia Ruskin University. The course taught me a lot about design in many aspects, with a big focus on typographical excellence.

Since graduating I have completed a 3 month internship at Two Create in London, leading on to a part-time Junior Designer position. I also take on freelance briefs on the side, to keep me busy and help hone my professional skills.

I have a passion for design, and in particular typography, and even more in particular, ampersands! I believe in working hard and exhausting every possible avenue of your design(s), even the not so promising ideas, because only then can you be fully happy with the final outcome that you have arrived at. Whilst at the university I took on a few live briefs within the university, both as part of a team and alone.

Now that I have graduated I am hoping to gain experience in the industry via internships or work-placements, or in an ideal world through a Junior/Graduate Designer position! I am also available for any freelance work, so feel free to contact me with any creative opportunities.

I am currently interning at TwoCreate as of the 18th July.

Freelance Designer

A freelance piece of design work. I was asked by the Art department at my University to design a large scale banner for their stand at the UCAS Arts fairs in London and Manchester. This was an important experience for me, being my first individual paid work for a client. It was important in gaining experience designing for a real life client, and working individually to a real life deadline. The final outcome can be seen in my portfolio either here on Behance or on my personal website.

Freelance Designer (part of a student based team)

I worked as part of a 3 man student team to produce the 2012 prospectus for the art department of my university. This started as work for marking on my curriculum in the second year of university, with the idea that it would also go to print as the actual prospectus. Due to things out of our control the project actually spanned deep into the summer break, with the final designs being finished late July. This was a very valuable experience for me, having to work as part of a design team for the first time on a real brief with a real client, and having to organise and design as a team to meet the deadlines we were set. It was my performance on this piece that led to the client asking me to design the banner for the UCAS Arts fair. You can see the final outcome on my portfolio either here on my behance site or on my personal portoflio site.
