I am an artist and designer who codes.
I am driven by curiosity, creativity and a passion for making things that communicate, open interpretation, move and excite people. I like making cool stuff, and really enjoy the synergy that emerges from working in creative collaboration. I love watching a project develop from the germ of an idea through to realization, and instinctively understand how to chunk and sequence tasks to get things done. Nothing beats that feeling of seeing a project realized, in the App Store and seeing people using it.
I recently discovered how creative coding is, and I'm actively seeking new opportunities to develop this further.
My PhD research was in neuroesthetics using practice-led research methodologies. What on earth is that, I hear you ask? It means that I explored the ways visual imagery can used to shift people physically, emotionally and psychologically, and how this acts to shape the self. I now bring this research to create interactive animations and environments, apps and games that engage users, create exciting visual narratives and open a space for discovery.
I taught art, design and technology for 15 years. I fostered a rich, engaging space for my students to discover their creativity, critical thinking and do their best work. One of my students once described my teaching as 'a breath of fresh air'. I bring the skills honed in the crucible of high school and college classrooms to project and team management.
My sculpture and installations have been exhibited internationally, and are held in public and private collections. I draw every day.
I'm not going to spell out my specific skills here, but if you are interested, you can scroll down and check out what I have done.
Each day, I'm carving out creative space while balancing the necessary busy of life. Read Less
