1-800-Flowers
Creative Intern
I was the intern for the Creative department of 1-800-Flowers this past summer. I learned about editing photographs for online advertisements, how to make online advertisements for 1-800-Flowers and their partner companies, and how to create color palettes and seasonal website schemes as well. Through this experience I gained a better understanding of how the artistic department works symbiotically with all the other departments of 1-800-Flowers: merchandising, advertising, public relations, and financing.
It was interesting for me to learn how the Creative department designs the website each year--how the creative directors reflect on the website designs from last year; reuse or tweak their colors; and change the design and advertisement style in relation to the culture pulse, competitors, and who the new target audience is.

Intern
29 Pieces' Piece 24 project is to make a monumental sculpture that is the visual embodiment of a positive virus that spreads the concepts of respect and compassion. This project, spearheaded by Karen Blessen and Craig Shenkel, is inspired by the poem Let Me Walk in Beauty's line, "let my hands respect the things that you have made."
Piece 24 brings together students from Adamson High School, Sunset High School, Irma Rangel Young Women's Leadership School, and Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, to design and make the mosaic sculpture.
My position as intern is to teach the students how to make mosaics, do social media, and to help design the final sculpture.
