Oberlin Baroque Performance Institute

Accompanist, student, musical scholar

I trained there during several summers for two week Baroque music festivals. During those focused weeks, it seemed there was not very much to focus on other things; however, this was the time I was first exposed to dance, although not the variety of dance that I have come to love and enjoy most. Nonetheless, I regularly am inspired by the impact music plays in my efforts today.

WFIRM

Researcher, Regenerative Medicine

I printed 3D parts of the heart and developed models of the heart as well for the purpose of 3D printing with polymers as a demonstration valve. I also gave weekly lectures on the topics, and I used various software and computer skills -- coupled with medical knowledge and guided by a meta-analysis and team research approach.

I was briefly caught being filmed in a segment by Discovery in which I was in the area where the 3D printers actually print body parts. I continue to make animations for the WFIRM group.

Education

University Of North Carolina - Chapel Hill (UNC)

Bachelors of Music Organ, Pre-Medicine

Graduated Phi Beta Kappa and had the opportunity to study various aspects of the Baroque Era and my graduate thesis was to study a Composition for Organ composed by Arnold Schoenberg (Organ Variations Op. 40). In Vienna, I had the opportunity to study the original scores.

I also regularly attended the Oberlin Baroque Performance Institute through an arrangement with music scholars who influenced me to gain exposure to the clavichord, harpsichord and to vocal coaching and accompaniment. I have had a lot of experience with musical arts, but it was not until later that I became entrenched in the visual field and in computer graphics and animation.

I was an Albert Schweitzer Fellowship Finalist and my research was featured on the Discovery Channel this past year when I was doing some work with cardiovascular printing of those structures and working with python script, CAD software and getting to work with sophisticated 3D printers at WFIRM.
