Alberto Pereira was born in Gabela, Angola, on the 6th of January of 1973, the same day his grandfather on his mother’s side was born only 72 years before. This silent and mysterious man had a great influence on him, their characters are very much alike and he believes that they saw the world with the same wonder spite the different times and values.
His father and mother went to Angola in the search of a better living away from the bad economic situation in which Portugal was then, along with a dictatorial regime and political persecution. The father served as telegraphist in the military and later worked for the Portuguese Postal Services. His mother also worked as a telegraphist for the Portuguese Postal Services, and that was how they met, using a “Morse code chat room”.
Well, they married and that was how Alberto came to this world and one year after was time for his sister to join the family.
He and his family flew from Angola to Portugal in 1975, avoiding civil war as some of the fighting was literally on their backyard.
The family found a new place to live in the city of Marinha Grande, an industrial island in the middle of a beautiful pine tree landscape from the Pinhal de Leiria National Park and the Atlantic Ocean just some 15 minutes away.
This is the place where Alberto grew and also where he became aware of his special and different way of seeing the world, drawing and looking to details through a future designer’s eyes.
After a misguided adolescence, filed with fantasies of becoming a air force pilot he found his passion: architecture, so in 1993 he started a 3 year period working as a draftsman for Francisco Marques & Pedro Jácome, architects in the near city of Leiria. He got involved in the project process and developed some of his skills even further.
In 1996 he manages to enter in the Industrial Design course in Escola Superior de Artes e Design in Caldas da Rainha. During this period he met lots of new people from all different artistic and professional areas, shared new ways of creativity and life stories, and experienced different professional areas all those influenced his work.
He left Caldas da Rainha and moved back to Marinha Grande in 2006 after he was accepted as a designer in a commercial decoration company in Fatima where he worked until the middle of 2007. He later left and started working also as a designer in a swimming pool and leisure areas construction company in Leiria. During these last years he developed his 3D illustration capabilities, technical knowledge and aesthetic taste.
During 2010 he somehow felt the need of working as a freelancer, managing his own work and walking his own path, always searching for perfection and with the need of freeing his mind and giving his vision to the outside world, to walk his own yellow brick road to happiness. Read Less
