My artwork is realistic and sensitive with an emphasis on emotion. I love to bring out the natural beauty in people and landscapes and tell or suggest a story. I fuse fine art with illustration by bringing a fine art look to children's picture books. I wish for my artwork to inspire and bring joy to children and adults, and through it make the world a better place.

Basya Cohen was born and raised in Metro-Detroit. After graduating high school she traveled to England to study art and design at The Manchester College. There she earned a Distinction for her work. Basya completed her Bachelor of Arts in Humanities from Thomas Edison State University in 2009. She earned her Master of Fine Arts in Illustration at the Academy of Art University (San Francisco, CA). Basya's artwork was accepted to the Annual Spring Show at the Academy of Art in 2012 and 2013. She received the Spring Show school of Illustration award for Best in Category.

Basya currently gives private art lessons and works as a freelance illustrator and portrait artist. When she is not teaching or painting, Basya enjoys reading, running, taking photos, learning languages, and playing the piano. Read Less
