Aoraki (Mount Cook) is the original name of this mountain, given to it by the Maori people of Polynesian Aotearoa (New Zealand). One of the most stunning wild flowers to grow there, in vast fields of glowing colour, is the lupin, first introduced by settlers in the 1940s.
