Design Kettle is the brainchild of Ashley Hairston Doughty—a product of urban and suburban environments in the Midwest and Southeast.

Refusing to be called a “fine artist,” Ashley has labeled herself a designer, illustrator, fiber and material artist, bookbinder, and writer.

Ashley holds a BFA in Visual Communications from Washington University in St. Louis and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Over the past ten years, she has seen the design world from all angles: in-house, small design firm, freelance, and non-profit. Her varied experiences—intellectually, professionally, and personally—have had a great an impact on her approach to design.

Most recently, Ashley taught graphic design and illustration for three years as an assistant professor at Middle Tennessee State University. She currently resides in Houston, Texas with her husband and practices design for individuals, small business, and corporations. Read Less
