Andrey Danilov, the boy with cotton candy hair and an agile mind, got a camera when he was 12. It was the start of a creative journey that would take him from Russia to China, and then Singapore, where he is currently based.

Fuelled by his fascination for photography, Andrey studied art formally at the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou. In the country where art is a continuous and seamless tradition, he learned to draw as much as he learned to appreciate form, function and style. Home to the dreamy West Lake, Hangzhou was the perfect backdrop to many creative pursuits, from photography to film to illustration. It was also there that he learned and mastered another form of art, the Brazilian martial art of Capoeira.

Capoeira presented challenges that were both physical and philosophical. It required the discipline to perfect fundamental techniques and the openness to accept new ones. It also represented what Andrey is most passionate about: Movement. Not one to rest, he is in constant pursuit of the next. And this is evident in his young creative career.

As an accomplished art director in Singapore, he was a part of the maverick team of Mangham Gaxiola, the creative shop famous for its work for CIMB, Nivea and Subaru, among others. From there, he moved to OgilvyOne, Ogilvy & Mather’s Customer Engagement arm focused on using new channels, innovation and data to engage consumers. Working on the Singtel account, one of the world’s leading telecommunications companies, Andrey is adept in both mainstream and digital advertising.

Beyond his day job, Andrey continues to stretch his creative muscle by working on visual identity and graphic design for new, up and coming brands that present him the freedom to create more.

Andrey also likes to concoct artisanal teas and punch wooden dolls, but not at the same time. Read Less
