Allen Elster recently joined the internal medicine staff as a resident at East Tennessee State University Medical Center. His responsibilities include updating the health-care records of hospital patrons, regulating medication administration, and interfacing with the families of patients to reach medical decisions. Additionally, Allen Elster runs an outpatient clinic in which he treats individuals with chronic illnesses once a week.

He earned a bachelor’s degree with emphases in neuroscience and chemistry at Duke University. While attending the Wake Forest School of Medicine, Dr. Elster received the Rachel & Isadore Meschan Award and additional honors in nuclear medicine, ICU medicine, and pathology. After completing his MD, he served as an Internal Medicine intern in the Greenville Hospital System through the USC School of Medicine. Throughout his studies, Allen Elster contributed to several publications that have appeared in medical journals, such as Diabetes Technology and Therapeutics and the Journal of Computer Assisted Tomography, and presented at the Wake Forest University Medical Student Research Conference.
