My name is Alana Naumann, I’m a photographer based in Berlin.

I began taking photos as a way of escapism; to deal with my inner struggles.

I am dyslexic. Reading and writing has always been a huge challenge for me. I intuitively use images to distil ideas into their simplest form - as my own way of coping in a world of increasing complexity.

For me, photography is a way out of confusion; to communicate visually. My camera is nothing more than a tool to help me to achieve that. Photography is a technical process, but the vast majority of my time is spent building connections that allow me to step into the world of my clients and ultimately bring the best out of the people I work with.

I understand that to get to a point where someone is open to reveal the fullest expression of themselves, I have to earn it. I do my homework to understand each individual’s background, work and interests and I take time to listen to their stories. The purpose of all this is to move beyond any baggage that we may bring, or any insecurities from our personal history. My aim is to allow people to feel so comfortable within this process that they forget that there is a camera in the room.

I grew up drawing in pen and ink. I have previously worked in architecture and I practice graphic design as a side hustle [love affair]. My deep fascination with form, pattern and composition plays a significant role in helping me find the most relevant visual language, freeze that perfect moment, and liberate the deepest, most authentic depiction of each person and their craft.
