Akile Nazli Kaya is an award winning animator, filmmaker and designer. After receiving her BA from the Graphic Design Department of Bilkent University in Ankara, she moved to the Czech Republic in 2005 to study traditional animation at the Film School Zlin. In 2012, she obtained her degree in MA at FAMU Film And TV School Of Academy Of Performance Arts In Prague, Department of Center of Audiovisual Studies (CAS) in Prague. Her Master's Thesis mainly focused on the uses of animation in documentary film.

Kaya's short films has received several awards since 2008, among which are the Best Film Prize at the Green Film Festival in Seoul, South Korea and her works were featured in number of international festivals like the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, IDFA: International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam and BFI Future Film Festival in London.

Besides working on her author films and performances, she functions also as a Commissioning Art Director and Animator for documentary films that are produced by institutions like the European Cultural Foundation, the Czech Television and the Academy of Science. In 2009, she worked as an assistant animator for Jan Švankmajer's latest animated feature Přežít Svůj Život / Surviving Life.

Akile Nazli Kaya, together with her partner Tomáš Doruška currently organize workshops on classical animation and its uses in documentary film making. In 2015, they organized two significant workshops, one in Diyarbakir, where they created several short animations with Kurdish children who are in need (themes focused on the children's life situations), and later at the Documentarist Film Festival in Istanbul (subjects regarding environmental, social justice and human rights).
