From my early furrows into the world of architecture I saw that ideas were the initial key component for a meaningful architecture. I believe it is essential to search for the inner essence in each aspect of a project, from its presumed use all the way through to the final detail. I like to keep asking questions, trying to define and integrate the unique qualities of each brief and site. I do this with the belief that any space can be elevated to an inspirational and meaningful level for the end users.

Prior to joining Avanti Architects, I enjoyed 5 years with the twice Stirling Prize shortlisted practice of Benson + Forsyth Architects, where I worked on a number of competition-winning landmark schemes and was subsequently involved in taking them through to detailed design. In advance of my time with Benson + Forsyth and following my final graduation, I expanded on previous professional experiences by taking up a position at the acclaimed Irish firm of Murray O’Laoire Architects where I was afforded the opportunity to both assist and lead on a number of projects, with the realised one winning a RIAI best building award.

I studied architecture at the design-orientated Mackintosh School of Architecture. In Glasgow, inspired by some wonderful tutors and the words of Louis Kahn, I developed a thoughtful expressive architecture which aimed to create inspiring and thought provoking arrangements of spaces and places for the people of the city. This was an extensive period of research, learning and critical thinking for me and I received the best-in-year design/portfolio award at the Mackintosh School of Architecture as well as at CIT where I previously studied architectural technology.

I value the ideas and strategies which can underlie projects, unlock the potential of their sites, and which have the capability to order their programs into enriching forms for the end users. I like to believe it is possible to breathe life into any project and I am always keen to evolve and widen our thinking on architecture and the city. Read Less
