IADT Dun Laoghaire
Designer & Research Assistant
In summer 2014, I was part of a multidisciplinary IADT team which undertook a research collaboration with the Insight Centre for Data Analytics and an industry partner, Flashpoint, relating to UI design and data visualisation. Insight is a joint initiative between University College Dublin, the National University of Ireland at Galway, University College Cork, and Dublin City University.
Flashpoint are an Irish company that develops technologies for advertisers and advertising agencies. Insight were already collaborating with Flashpoint in respect of their flagship platform - Bionic - which enables Facebook advertisers to easily and efficiently manage, optimise and report on campaigns.
Working with staff from IADT and one other Research Assistant, we focused on resolving one of the key challenges encountered by Insight and Flashpoint, namely presenting relatively complex data sets spanning time, cost, demographic profiles and impact to Bionic users in a meaningful and actionable format.
The phases of the project included:
· Requirements elicitation
· Initial research
· Design prototyping
· Delivery of final outputs to client, including UI designs, data visualisations and a functioning prototype
· Development of working prototype using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
The project met with an extremely high level of approval from the client and is likely to be implemented in a further phase of collaboration between Insight and Flashpoint.
