The methodology of visual communication, past, present and future has captivated me from an early age. I'm currently studying Graphic design at college and i'm in my second year. This is therefore currently building up my intellectual desire and equipping me with the skills, knowledge and abilities for a fulfilling vocation and career down the lines of Graphic Design, to play an active role in a wide range of communications business from design consultancies to media companies, publishers to packaging. I am fortunate to attend a high ranking college of further education, where academic excellence is the expectation. I find the subjects that I study at 'A' level, to be stimulating and engaging.
I particularly enjoy the branding and editorial side. These titles enable me to exhibit my creative and innovative skills and problem solving abilities. This course includes such facets as model making, technical drawing, sketching and the use of technical equipment: this enhances and enriches my artistic expression through three dimensional media. I am confident such a course equips me with skills pertinent to the Graphic design course, this provides opportunity that such practicalities enable me to convey my artistic view of the media environment to a wide audience.
My study of Graphic Design allows me to communicate effectively my ideas through digital media in a contemporary and professional manner. In addition to this, I produce hand crafted work to a high standard. One of the many strengths of my current course is the practice of critique, review and appraisal of my work by staff and peers. This is sound preparation for the rigours and assessment aspects of a Graphic Design degree.
Whilst pursuing my A Level course in English Literature and Language, I have found the work both enjoyable and challenging. The advanced skills I have gained support my use of literary correct techniques, to benefit working practices at University and in the workplace.
I have read widely around my subjects, especially those appertaining to Graphic Design. My interest in Graphic Design has been supported by visits to prominent sites, the most appetizing being the Tate Modern in London. Such experiences have provided me with a depth and insight to the history and development of such artwork and the environment which pursues.
I consider myself to be an organised and self-motivated student. These skills led me to be selected for the position of a prefect, during my final year at Kingsmead School, Wiveliscombe. I am currently completing my DofE bronze award which allowed me to undergo a vital three months of voluntary work at my local charity shop, supporting St. Margaret's Hospice. I have supported numerous open days throughout my academic career, offering advice and guidance regarding my courses. These posts of responsibility have enabled me to further develop my managerial, leadership, critical and communication skills.
I am proud, also, of my achievements outside of college. I am passionate regarding my own personal fitness and have taken part in many local competitions regarding my involvement in Cricket, Rugby and Football teams locally as well as for my School and college, alongside this I am an enthusiastic member of my local gym. I feel this management of my life balance is an appropriate one to support my development as a Graphic Designer. To conclude, I feel that I am ambitious, enthusiastic, highly driven and able to manage a heavy workload. I am passionate regards Graphic Design and would relish the opportunity to pursue a career within this field. Read Less
