Rick McCawley

Broward College

Plantation, FL, USA
I’ve been a professional photographer. I’ve started my own business as a trainer and curriculum consultant. And for the last 14 years I’ve been running the Graphic Design A.S. degree program I designed. That program, at Broward College in Fort Lauderdale, boasts hundreds of graduates, 390 currently enrolled students, and an 87% job placement rate.
Now I want to bring my unique experience and creativity to your institution.
My degree program’s success results from my commitment to constantly innovating and adapting the curriculum to changing technologies and the evolving job market. After transforming the curriculum from print-centric to web- focused, I am once again reorienting the program to meet rising job demand in UX/UI, motion design and app development.
These abilities to adapt and innovate stem from my blend of artistic, technical, practical, entrepreneurial and academic experience. My career includes 12 years as a Miami Herald photojournalist. My business specialized in corporate training and curriculum design. It was in fact my work as a consultant with Broward College that led to my hiring to run the very program I designed.
It is not enough for students to make things look good and be technically skilled. I try to instill in my students a multidisciplinary approach to becoming design thinkers and problem solvers.
I will be moving to New York City in the summer of 2015.
