I am self-taught in photography. I have been teaching myself for most of 66 years. I ran my own portrait studio for a few years, until hunger intervened. I went back to newspapers where I worked mostly as an editor, but not infrequently as a reporter and photographer. I worked also as a construction photographer for the Bechtel Corporation; they build really big things. The photographic work I have done that has pleased me most is street work—people. I live by the sea in a small port city at the end of the Columbia River, so, today, I spend a lot of time photographing the water, ships, boats the people who work around and on the water. I like also to escape to the quiet places outside this small city—the forests, ocean beachs, farmlands—where I try to get that stillness on film, well, not film anymore. Read Less
