"POLITICAL ANIMALS" - USA Television series with Sigourney Weaver

POLITICAL ANIMALS is USA Network's highly anticipated Limited Series Event that pulls back the curtain on the polished facade of a former first-family as they navigate the complex world of political and personal ambition. Sigourney Weaver stars as former first lady and current Secretary of State Elaine Barrish Hammond who is attempting to keep her family together while simultaneously dealing with crises of the State Department and fending off the hungry DC journalist (Carla Gugino) who is bent on destroying her career.Exploring themes that resonate in the current political landscape and taking viewers beyond the glossy ads and well-written public speeches, POLITICAL ANIMALS will reveal a vulnerable family on the verge of falling apart. From Warner Horizon Television and acclaimed television and film producers Greg Berlanti ("Brothers & Sisters") and Laurence Mark ("Julie and Julia"), POLITICAL ANIMALS also stars James Wolk ("Shameless"), Sebastian Stan ("Gossip Girl"), Ellen Burstyn ("Requiem for a Dream"), Ciaran Hinds ("Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy") and Brittany Ishibashi ("The Mentalist").
Filmmaking brings unique opportunities and challenges for making operations more sustainable therefore I am brought onto productions to help educate, supervise an assist studios and television productions to do the right thing for the environment. I am committed to becoming a more sustainable business by identifying and integrating innovative ways to reduce our environmental footprint and work with productions and various departments, resources and suggest best practices.

The motion picture industry is a multi-billion-dollar business with significant capital and global influence. Film production relies on many different sectors to complete the production of a movie. Given that the average cost to make and market a major motion picture is over $100 million, changes within the movie industry could attract wide attention and positively influence the practices of other sectors.

By prioritizing four principal areas of the production – transportation, energy, waste and construction/set materials I was able to achieve substantial reductions in greenhouse gas emissions as well as local environmental impacts. For waste management, we would hire contractors with experience recycling and removing separate waste streams, thus a substantial portion of their waste was redirected away from landfills and set materials were donated to organizations that could make future use of them.

On October 2012, When POLITICAL ANIMALS wrapped production, Warner Bros. flew Los Angeles Sustainable Producer Monica Ramone to Philadelphia to oversee STRIKE of this large production. This included 55 offices as well as 2 large stages with 7 sets including the WHITE HOUSE, AIR FORCE - multiple DC HOME FACADES.

Monica worked tirelessly to find all local resources for recycling of construction materials, art supplies, props and stages. She was able to source many local sustainable groups as well as local productions to take sets and re-purpose and then the end materials were donated to worthy causes.

Some integral Sets were re-purposed and used by other nearby productions to save landfill waste and add production value. Monica was able to recycle 90% of sets and construction materials through various recycling companies sourced locally Donations of furniture, household goods, art supplies, appliances and building materials, bedding and clothes were given to: Habitat for Humanity, Sandy Storm Relief, Philadelphia Ballet, Women In Need Shelter, and local schools.

Warner Bros. Sustainable Executives were please with the quick action Monica was able to take in must 3 weeks and stated: "I wanted to share that we were impressed with Monica Ramone’s response when asked if she could please act as an environmental steward and follow a sustainable approach to wrapping Political Animals. What was even more impressive, to hear that she was already on it, understood sustainability and eager to report the very sizeable donations made to local non profits; this is precisely what we ask of all our TV and Feature productions. Our Green Program benefits greatly when working with people like Monica. We are not only acting responsibly and reporting our metrics, we are also maintaining healthy relationships with those communities our productions shoot in while not on a studio stage. This proves to be beneficial for everyone involved. Engaging our producers to invest in this type of practice can sometimes be challenging but Monica proved its doable. I look forward to working with her again."

All is all - it was a Green Success and Warner Bros. was able to wrap their production in a green way and build good will in local film locations like Philadelphia and help multiple charities! Read Less
