Mattison Quinn

Savannah College of Art and Design

Savannah, GA, USA
I am every bit like my name, Mattison. A somewhat common name when you hear it, but very different in its spelling. A name with no apparent meaning, which makes it so appropriate. I’m able to create my own identity and meaning, like a blank canvas before me. This concept can be translated in my artwork, in that I push the boundaries of a basic skill and make it my own. My work plays with a balance between intricacy and boldness. Simplicity and complexity seem like polar opposites but the outcome is explosive.

Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home

Secretary

Worked as part of the family business, I was able to experience and see first hand how a company operates and handles countless situations. I started working from the bottom up where I have been able to acquire a number of skills. First, working as an usher, I opened the door and directed people to their desired location. I dealt first hand with the families of the deceased and their friends and loved ones, making sure their needs were satisfied. Working as a secretary, I typed obituaries, responded to emails and phone calls, made prayer cards, as well as filing. I then moved on to making personalized videos with songs and pictures of the one to be remembered. Working here has taught me to how to communicate and respond to many different types of people and responding to their needs.
