Mary Gowen

Combat ignorance.
Provoke contemplation.
Inspire action.

I’m passionate about serving the world’s oppressed and broken through art that dignifies both them and their realities, and photography, design, drawing and digital media form the vehicles I’ve chosen to illuminate important issues of injustice that so often go unnoticed. I dream of affecting and impacting societies from all parts of the world through my work, and strive to depict the truths I discover in places stretching from the depths of my own soul to the furthest reaches of the planet. I’m primarily interested in using my work to communicate the need for social justice in international communities, and have also explored at depth the theme of identity in expressing thoughts about my past, present and future self. I believe that art is a powerful tool for communication, education and change, and hope that my work is useful and effective in the pursuit of a more just world.
