Marta Ignerska is one of Poland’s most talented and frequently awarded illustrators of the younger generation; as well as her contribution to children’s illustration, she also works in design, graphic art, and press illustrations. She is a twice winner of Bologna Ragazzi Awards (2007, 2012), and has also received multiple awards at competitions organized by the Polish section of IBBY and other international competitions (in Seoul and Tallinn). Her books have appeared through prestigious Polish, French, Italian, and Norwegian publishing houses.

She is sometimes called the Pablo Picasso of Polish illustration, and for good cause. She is known for the creative verve she brings to illustrating and designing her books. Her work exhibits taste and demonstrates her arts education, as a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. She takes liberally from various traditions in the arts: from cubism, abstract art, street art, and constructivism, creatively exploring their aesthetics and their untapped potential. Ignerska’s strident illustrations often give the simplest texts new and unexpected significance.
