Lydia Mann

web strategy and communications design – product coordination & management

New York, NY, USA
I help companies figure out who they should be communicating with, how best to reach them, and using which technologies. I can see a project straight through information architecture, user experience and visual design or focus on any one of those areas, as need be.

Professionally, nothing is more satisfying than making a task simpler. This is at the heart of improving layout and flow of online forms, editing text for easy scanning and comprehension and stripping away unneeded elements. Calling on training as an educator, I am able to anticipate potential gaps and how to avert them.

I bring more than 20 years of experience designing and developing websites, applications, intranets and print collateral materials for a wide variety of clients, from large financial associations to small-business owners, artists and musicians, as well as establishing and maintaining brand and corporate identities. I have a BA in graphic design and early-childhood education from SUNY Empire State College. And I paint as often as possible.

Specialties: website design, corporate communications, information architecture, graphics, interaction design, user experience, product management, web & content strategy, web applications, intranets, print collateral

Work Experience

Newsweek/The Daily Beast

Web design and strategy

As a soup-to-nuts designer, I handle complete projects from initial client-contact to design and development.
Recent products have challenged me to expand my comfort level with jQuery and JavaScript, working around content management system limitations and an expansive list of content-providers. The results have been easily navigable content-rich experiences across device platforms including an updated media kit and the Newsweek Daily Beast Digital Power Index.
Following announcement of cessation of publishing a physical Newsweek magazine, I've been evaluating ways to streamline production. InDesign/InCopy files will need to export thoroughly tagged data to be purposed for all means of digital consumption with the least amount of manual intervention possible.
