Alexander Kappelhoff

business owner, technical game artist, motion graphics animator, storyboarder, classical animator, project manager

Utrecht, Netherlands
As a person, I am interested in a wide array of subjects. I love learning technical stuff from the bottom up, embracing the grind as it's called, while at the same time learning about corporate structures, project management and dealing with people.
As a result of this, I'm not hyper specialized but I do have a sense how to approach any visual problem and if I can't solve it, I always have someone in my network that can.

Work Experience

Pillar Games

Technical artist/ animator & Partner

From the experience we accumulated at Firebrush Studios, we decided to create a new brand for the applied gaming sector, which is Pillar Games. Here, we create applied games for medicine, tech, training and education for all kinds of businesses. I oversee the art creation and integration process but I'm also involved in the acquisition processes and manage some of our projects.

MetMotion

Motion Graphics Artist

I was a regular freelancer for metMotion, executed most of their animation projects and functioned as a coach for their animation interns. We did a wide range of client-commissioned projects. After the start of my new company Pillar Games, we sort of split ways and they hired a full time employee for the animation projects. I still come by weekly though and offer consultancy or assistance (if I can) whenever they are understaffed.
January 2015 - December 2017 Utrecht, Netherlands

Firebrush Studios

Partner, Lead Artist

I started this company with my two partners, initially taking work for hire but gradually moving towards a pro-active market approach, initiating our own projects.

Tanrikulu Group

Overall Artist

Having just graduated, I moved to Brussels to live some of the good life. I ended up working there for a big group of Turkish family businesses, making animated commercials, creating flyers, designing furniture and interior decoration.

The work circumstances were not that good, the work was underpaid and there was a lot of time pressure. It was a way of doing business I was unfamilliar with and eventually, uncomfortable.
So, I got out when I could and started my own company in the Netherlands.

Grid VFX

Traineeship Junior compositor

This was a traineeship. I did compositing work, vfx and color grading for some major television productions in Belgium.

It was a good traineeship, I learned a lot but I can't say my heart lies with compositing.
October 2011 - December 2011 Gentbrugge, Belgium

Nozon Liege

Trainee 3d Animation

Nozon was doing the second season of Minuscule, a popular animation series for Tv5. Under time pressure, they got a lot of trainees on board. The work was great, the pipeline was very streamlines.
Together with a friend of mine I did one entire episode, which was really cool as a trainee and also did a lot of addition scenes for other episodes. All of that ended up on television, which I found to be quite an honor.
July 2011 - August 2011 Liège, Belgium

Education

MAD Faculty

Master of Audiovisuals Arts

This education was very broad. There was a lot of focus on the concept. We had some 3d education but not that much. I didn't yet make up for this lack of experience. For now, I can say I'm very good at storyboarding, 2d animation and storyboarding.
