Jure Labaš was born on October 22, 1935, in Oroslavje.

He enrolled in 1950 in the Applied Arts School in Zagreb, printmaking course.

After his high school leaving exam, in 1955 he enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts. He took his first degree in the painting class of Ivo Režek in 1960. The same year, at the invitation of Krsto Hegedušić, he became an associate of the latter’s master workshop. In 1963 he was admitted into the Association of Fine Artists of Croatia, and in 1969 won the annual prize of the association for painting. He exhibited solo since 1964 and has to date had some 50 individual exhibitions, and has taken part in many group exhibitions all over the world.

He does drawings, prints, collages, sculpture-objects, tapestries, watercolours and other paintings, mainly in mixed media.

Jure Labaš has four major opuses Clowns and masks, Bestiary, Erotica and Hommage à Dali and Picasso .

In 2005 a monograph concerning the artistic oeuvre of this artist called Jure Labaš/Erotica was published, with essays written by Valdimir Malekovic, Darko Schneider and Ivo Šimat Banov. Read Less
