Jesse Anne de Beer

Graphic Designer: Creative Consultant & Brand Identity Developer

Cape Town, South Africa
I am a graphic designer with more than a decade of industry experience. I seek new creative ventures + collaboration junctures and the opportunity to grow my local and international footprint. I believe in placing value, sensibility and creative excellence into my work, each piece designed to inform / captivate and persuade.

Work Experience

Minuteman Press

Apprentice / Junior Graphic Designer

Plucked fresh from the crop I began my first job working for Magda & Johan Barnard who gave me a brilliant head start to my design career and watered my budding industry noob self into a more confident and knowledgeable version of myself. Students are never fully prepared for “the working world” so it was tough love. Lucky for me my natural creativity and bubbly personality quickly made me a favourite.

Responsibilities + Paraphernalia:

Here I was introduced to the marvelous world of lithographic printing, paper manufacturers, client briefing and stationery of all shapes and sizes. Learning to combine purpose and function of materials with my design. Trained in printing processes, colour separations, CMYK / Pantone, publications, sales, making copies, digital printing, di-cutting, scoring, cdr, embossing, metrics, inks, printers, copiers, office automation, briefs, invitations, business cards, letterheads, envelopes, book covers, CD/DVD, flyers, posters, lamination, ring biding, industrial paper cutters, GSM, calenders, diaries and branding, annual projects, company profiles, litho, digital printing, collation, finishing's, stationery and promotions etc. Understanding the production process, industry standards, possibilities, limitations and combinations of anything gives you the knowledge to pair your design all way throughout. Maintaining strict quality and continuity is key.

Sign-A-Rama

Head Hunted Designer / Go-to-Girl... Junior- Mid Graphic Designer

Deciding to move up in the world I pursued a career at Sign-A-Rama. From day one I maximized each day and learned all I could, eventually worked my way up within a few months to senior head designer / Go-to-Girl / mentor and head of production. I was taught to be a tough cookie often grafting +- 35 hours of overtime. Capable of hard work and wiser for it, the passion and fierce independence kept me driven. I became a hands-on creative designing whirlwind of ideas. Word of my reputation soon got out and so did I...

Responsibilities + Paraphernalia:

Next level... This world was one of far more materials and production diversity than I could have dreamed. I was experimenting with visual spaces and presentation. Adding to my arsenal: jigs and templates, .eps, .dxf, signage, vehicle decals/ magnets, vinyls (carbon fiber, day glow etc), Avery/Oracal vinyls, shop fitting , window decals, lettering / cut out letters, neon lighting, light boxes, stickers, banners, posters, frames, PVC’s, lighting, promotional products, displays, expo layouts, PERSPEX®, Maizey plastics, ABS, plastics, woods, metals, acrylic, sheeting, chromadek, moulding, cutting, weeding, nesting, application, inks, screen printing, name badges, signs (road/directional/ etc.) and billboards etc. I use various vinyl cutting machines and large format digital printers as well as the CNC router and laser cutters. And can place orders when I need, allowing my initiative to expand. My design is an extension of who I am, so I give my best or nothing.
