Drawn to the arts ever since she can remember, Inês Mota is a set designer also fascinated by puppetry, light design, performative and visual arts. She is also curious about other countries. In that spirit, she has collaborated with Red Ladder Theatre Company in Leeds, U.K, as an intern for six months, in 2017. While in the U.K. she had the opportunity of visiting the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for 4 days, where she experienced some of the best theatre performances she has ever seen.
Still within the international intent, she attended Libera Accademia di Belle Arti (LABA) in Brescia, Italy, during the final semester of her Bachelor’s degree, granted in 2016 by Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo (ESMAE), Porto, Portugal.
She is currently working as an intern at the Department of Props and Sets of ESMAE, where she is responsible for organising the workshops, classrooms and storage spaces, watching over the props, tools, materials and equipment, as well as for supporting and supervising the construction of set elements.
Has a designer Inês regularly collaborates with the Theatre Club of Escola Básica da Gafanha da Encarnação, coordinated by Madalena Melo, creating sets and puppets for their productions. Additionally, she has worked as a props builder for a couple of productions, including Público Reservado’s co-production with Teatro Nacional São João titled “A Minha Existência Involuntária na Terra”, in 2018.
Quite recently, she worked with Público Reservado again for their production of “Estava em casa e esperava que a chuva viesse”, a play by Jean-Luc Lagarce staged at Teatro Municipal do Porto - Campo Alegre, for which she designed the set.
Over the years Inês has participated in several theatre, art and performance festivals. Among them are FIMP (Festival Internacional de Marionetas do Porto, from 2014 to 2017 as a volunteer), SET (Semana das Escolas de Teatro, 2014), a theatre festival organised by ESMAE which involves every school of theatre in Portugal, and Serralves em Festa, 2013, with a puppet theatre project titled “Damas, Donzelas e Princesas” developed while attending Escola Artística de Soares dos Reis.
Another unforgettable experience in her path was Prague's Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space 2015 where a project of her’s was integrated in the Portuguese Student Section exhibition as part of APCEN's (Associação Portuguesa de Cenografia) project titled "UN-PACK TO GO". Read Less
