Born in 1978 as Kevin Michael Heibel, KAËM gained practical experience in the advertising industry before he studied design at Schwaebisch Hall University of Applied Sciences in Germany and at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia from 2002 until 2005. After earning a Bachelor’s degree, he worked as a freelance illustrator and designer for various clients throughout Germany. Meanwhile, he focuses on the creation of comics and graphic novels as well as artwork for fiction that addresses children, young adults and all those who refuse to grow up.

KAËM is interested in pointing out especially the peculiar aspects of life. Relationships of man to himself, to his own kind and to his environment are essential to KAËM's work. He rather looks on the bright side of things in order to make his audience realize a certain message and think about it. KAËM feels inspired, for instance, by works of Tim Burton, John Connolly, Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett.

Having a passion for good stories, KAËM seeks to create images that unfold narrative qualities of their own and, hence, amaze and inspire audiences. To release what’s on his mind, he applies analogue and digital methods of drawing and painting, adds linocut or otherwise printed elements and takes advantage of digital image editing. In doing so, he pays heed to maintaining an overall vivid and original look-and-feel. Read Less
