This is the direction we are in at the current moment. It seems that change is inevitable but I feel that responsive website design will be the standard for a long time. ( I hope )...Another area that needs addressed is standardization for browsers and devices. We are in better shape today than say 5 years ago but there is still a little more work to do. As a web designer I am at the mercy of the major browsers and all the devices. Responsive design and a css reset really helps me to make a website that should look consistent across all platforms. One area that I noticed recently is that the Android platform does not honor favicon's or save to home screen bookmark icon images the same way that the Apple IOS does. So, these are the little things that are on my wish list to have resolved. One day we will have a standard... The printing industry ( Lithography ) went through this many years ago. In the old days each ink company had their own unique ink colors and ink formulas. Image the challenge if 3 different advertising agencies all used a different printing ink splotch book for color picking. You as the printer had to have access to each books formula for mixing the ink to print the work. Today printing ink is basically all standardized with the "Pantone Matching System". If I tell you,
your red is PMS 185, everyone in the printing industry, ad agencies and graphics designers know exactly what I am talking about and they can all match it exactly. So, some day I believe the "WEB" "WWW" community will get on board and realize the importance of ONE standard for browsers and devices... I hope I am alive to see that day, lol
