Nathaniel McConnell Chen

User Experience Designer

Escondido, CA, USA
Today, I have multiple clients and work remotely from home. My clients range from bootstrapping startups to well funded startups. I use my process to achieve alignment amongst stakeholders prior to testing on people out in the real world. I have incorporated the following methodologies into my process; lean startup, agile, mobile-first, and growth-hacking. These processes enable me to get things live within a two week time frame, build the proper amount of hype to garner a mass movement, and ultimately increase revenue, awareness, and efficiency.

Apliiq

User Experience Designer

During my 3 years at Apliiq I Lead the team in UX/UI Design. I injected my design process into the company. My design process is three phases; Discovery, Design, and Implementation. In discovery phase I develop the strategy and scope of the project. I also develop the Gantt chart to provide the timeline when the project will complete. The next phase is the Design phase. Here, I collaborate with stakeholders to develop user flows, wireframes, and style guides. The final phase is implementation phase. Here, I develop the hi-fidelity prototype and test individuals at a nearby coffee shop. My most notable project is a product design that crowd funded on Kickstarter for $35,000 in one month. I designed the prototype using SVGs (scalable vector graphics) to increase the websites performance. I also tested the prototype on Millennials at nearby college campuses. Primary qualitative research let the team and stakeholders know what users value and desire. This contributed to the re-positioning of the Apliiq brand. The transition was away from one off B2C towards a multi-sided marketplace. Resulting in young entrepreneurs starting their own brand and selling streetwear to Millennials. I contributed to content strategy and S.E.O. that propelled Apliiq to number one on page one of Google. I did this by designing the SEO pyramid to ensure the top ranking page had the appropriate number of back links. I ensured the leaf pages linked together in a usable way so users would actually click the links. Moreover, I developed the eMail html template and marketing campaigns. This increased revenue for Apliiq more than ever before in its history. I relied on my process to design the user experience of their mobile website. This made the site behave like a Progressive Web App. The mobile design was in 2013 before mobile eclipsed tablet, laptop and desktop users. Today, most millennials don't even own a laptop. In 2015, Google began favoring mobile friendly sites in SEO rankings.
