The Color Place was a trade shop that offered drum scanning, retouching/color correction and produced plate-ready film for printers primarily in the Louisville market. My duties were basically all things related to production and prepress: management, training, typesetting, trapping, color correction, retouching etc. Clients included Craftsman Tools, Vermont American, Ace Hardware, Colgate Palmolive, General Electric, Lexmark, Humana, Brown Forman, ...

Provided insight, guidance and training to traditional trade shops migrating from conventional to electronic prepress production. Clients in Sarasota, Bradenton, St. Petersburg, Tampa, Florida and Lexington, Kentucky

Prepress production of catalogs such as Tupperware, L.L. Bean, Gander Mountain and magazines such as Architectural Lighting, Hot Rod, Wooden Boat, Yankee and dozens of other periodicals. Cross-trained staff in the fundamentals of electronic prepress techniques, color workflow, typesetting, retouching, trapping. Provided technical guidance to sales staff under a separate title of “Technical Service Representative” traveling nationwide to educate clients in color theory and file preparation.

Starting with a Mac II and one imagesetter, built service bureau into the largest in Florida (in 1990). Offering 24-hour operation with seven operators, multiple imagesetters, color printers and scanners.

Jr. Designer at package design firm. Private-label and national-brand packaging design work. I have a two-year degree in Advertising Design, but everything I know about high production standards, typography, and designing with balance and visual clarity, I learned from Rick and Karen Fichthorn. These were my teachers – this was my school.
