After developing my artistic abilities from an early age, I started my career in the creative department of a commercial offset printing company while in 10th grade. After high school, I attended Commercial Art school while employed as Art Director. I later worked in retail advertising at the corporate headquarters of a furniture chain producing ads, full-color circulars/inserts, and collateral. Working in management for a large web-printer, I oversaw the production of Sunday newspaper supplements and inserts for dozens of national retail brands. While employed there I acquired my BBA degree in marketing and computer science at Georgia State University's Robinson School of Business. As Vice President of the Pi Sigma Epsilon marketing fraternity, I developed a winning strategic advertising plan in competition with 50 universities. This recognition led to a job at a leading advertising agency where I wrote strategic plans, learned broadcast creative direction and production, worked in the agency’s photography studio, and implemented a computer system for media planning via Nielsen and Arbitron ratings services.
Over many years, I worked at a number of advertising agencies in various capacities while implementing computer systems for media planning, creative graphics (page layout, illustration, photo editing), and accounting, billing, and payroll. With comprehensive education and experience, I had become a seasoned and highly respected marketing and advertising executive.
I launched Davis Advertising, Inc., in 1990 and quickly landed several high-visibility Fortune 500 accounts, partly through referrals from long-held contacts in the television market. In addition to creating graphics and 3d animation, my fast-growing shop eventually added audio recording, video editing, and photography studios to its arsenal. Davis Advertising, Inc., served as a beta-test site for Avid Pro-Tools® recording software and Avid Media Composer® video-editing software. While serving as a website moderator/consultant, I was asked by Avid Technology to write a flagship creative blog entitled “Journey from Concept to Creation.” The blog is featured on Linkedin.com.
Davis Advertising’s work was featured in a special section on “Atlanta’s Best Advertising” in the Atlanta Business Chronicle. The shop has been listed as being among Atlanta’s Top Advertising Agencies. It has received several Telly and Aurora awards for excellence in television advertising and corporate video. A Public Service Announcement (PSA) — a post 911 call for unity — was exhibited at The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity; touring the world via the Advertising Community Together (ACT) initiative. Robert has been the subject of a feature article, “Learning from the Pros” in the best-selling book series; Que Publishing’s Using CorelDRAW! He has received additional press in Oz Magazine (a creative industry rag) and Georgia State University’s Signal Magazine. He has served as the final marketing/advertising judge in the International DECA competition at the Atlanta World Congress Center.
In my spare time, I love to create illustrations, perform vocals, guitars, and drums, and ride my vintage Italian racing bike. 🎬
