Dan Dismounts

Sioux Falls, SD, USA
For as long as I can remember I’ve had a passion for art and design. As I’ve grown I’ve continued to learn more and more about the world of graphic design. My overall goal is simple, I want to share my passion for design and help others make an impression on the world in their own unique way.

I feel very fortunate that I am able to make a career doing something I enjoy. I can’t wait to see what the future holds, and how I may be able to help others share their insights, products, and messages with the world.

Work Experience

First Class Design

Shop Hand

My first job was working at a sign shop in my hometown of Huron, SD called First Class Designs. My duties at FCD were to prep, apply, and sometimes remove vinyl decals from various signs, cars, and other objects. Although my time here was short I enjoyed learning about vinyl graphics. I feel that this experience helped lay the foundation for my understanding of what you can and can’t do when it comes to designing for replication.

PB Sports

Graphic Designer

I left First Class Design when I was offered a job at a local screen printing shop. At PB Sports I did a variety of things ranging from actually screen printing to helping with inventory; my main objective though was to simply design. I learned a lot in my time at PB both in the areas of design, and how to work with clients to reach a final result. So many opportunities were presented to me in this position, and I must thank Pat and Connie Winegar for all that they did to help me get the most out of this position.

Sales Associate

When I started college I figured that I would need a job; unfortunately I was unable to find any openings in design. I ended up as a Garden Center Sales Associate at Walmart. In my two and a half years there, I have done everything from working as a cashier, to unloading freight from the trucks. I’ve worked overnights, garden center, hardware, housewares, and I’m currently in sporting goods at the Brookings Walmart on the weekends. Although my experience here doesn’t have much to do with design, it’s helped me learn to be adaptable and open to change, something I’m sure that I’ll encounter in the world of design.

Student Designer

At Daktronics, I held the role of Student Graphic Designer. I worked in the commercial marketing department, creating different promotional materials. I worked with others to design brochures, newsletters, etc, to help the sales team. This was the first ‘professional’ design job that I had held, and it was interesting to see how the work flowed through an in-house design team. It was nice going to work and knowing that the materials that I designed actually helped the company sell their message centers and scoreboards.
