L'Oréal
South African Student Brandstorm Representative
L'Oréal Brandstorm is an International Marketing Award that gives the opportunity to students from all around the world to become a marketing brand manager.
The challenge was to develop a new innovative ‘haircare and styling’ product or product range to attract more consumers in the South East Asia Zone and create a marketing strategy to support it.
This project required teams of three to create a new product and develop an innovative marketing strategy around it. My particular role consisted of designing the product and packaging, conceptualising the idea, copywriting, research, strategic development and presentation.
Our particular product won the coveted title of National Winners, followed by our partcipation in the international finals hosted in Paris.

Praekelt Foundation
Intern
Our appointment as Praekelt’s interns was due to the development of a University social interactive design project our group had developed. Diamobi was a mobile application we developed to improve the current situation of the underprivileged struggling with the condition Diabetes. Praekelt had chosen our concept to present to Roche, which is the South African Diabetes organization. However, due to unforeseen circumstances we had to put the development of the project on halt and continue to assist Praekelt with various other projects they were currently working on.
I particularly spent a lot of time working under one of the project managers Maryna Ellis, whom I assisted with the social media element of two of her main projects being The Guinness Football Challenge which was an interactive competition powered through Facebook in which fans could create profiles and participate in the challenge; as well as the Airtel Football Mania project which was also an interactive platform powered through its own content manager which I would have to update as well as manage.

Bachelor of Arts Information Design
The successful information designer (communication designer), is a professional, highly qualified person who plays a decisive role in creating the contemporary visual environment. We live in a world in which we are surrounded by words and pictures and it is the designer’s responsibility to provide original solutions to mass communication problems. A skilled designer has the ability to convey meaningful and powerful visual messages in a variety of media, to many different people.
The functions of communications design can be broadly defined by four intentions. They are:
To establish a visual identity for people, organisations or products
To visually inform, direct, explain, describe and educate
To persuade people to change their actions and behaviors
To create an entertaining, aesthetic or intriguing experience.
