Camilla Arthur Casting

Los Angeles, CA, USA
I am happiest when I am working - it's the excitement of the challenge; to be given a casting brief (however obscure... in fact the weirder the better!) and researching every possible avenue available, in order to find exactly what the client wants. This is why I am so into street casting - I am not confined by what the modeling or talent agencies offer.... the world is my agency -I have the population of Los Angeles' streets from which to find my cast!

Work Experience

Models One

When it was Models One/Elite London, I ran the girls division for 4 years

I Started as a booker for the girls division, having spent the previous 4 years at IMG models where I had been trained as a booker. After a short time at Models One/Elite, I was promoted to run the girls division.

Tim Bret Day

photographer's assistant

After leaving Models One I decided to open a photographic agency, but before I started finding work for photographers, I felt it was important to really understand what their job entails, so for 6 months I worked as a photographic assistant to Tim Bret-Day, who I subsequently went on to represent!

Camilla Arthur Lebon Casting UK

CEO/Casting Director

It was during this period that I coined the phrase 'street casting', a previously unknown style of casting; basically by 'hitting the streets', combing music festivals and always looking out for a special 'look', I compiled an enormous database of amazing looking girls and guys, in London. This form of casting then acquired international recognition, after Calvin Klein approached me regarding the advertising campaign he was doing with Steven Meisel for his new perfume, CKONE. He based the entire campaign (incl stills, commercials - billboards, print etc) on the casting tapes I provided.
During this period I cast literally thousands of British TV commercials, editorial for publications ranging from ID to US Vogue (& everything in between) and fashion adv campaigns for DKNY, Nautica, Pepe Jeans, Levis Jeans, L'Oreal etc etc.
When I met Sacha Baron Cohen, he was at art school and I thought he'd be good in commercials, so I cast him regularly, helping him find an agency for acting and set him on his way...!
1992 - 1999 London, United Kingdom

Ridley Scott Associates

commercials director

I directed 8 commercials in my first year as a commercials director, but for personal reasons I decided to leave London and move to Los Angeles, where I tool a sabatical from the film/fashion industry and, following a life-long passion, learnt and subsequently worked as a club and pirate radio DJ, both in LA and then Uk, when I moved back to London briefly.
1999 - 2000 London, United Kingdom

Wig Magazine

Features editor

Although this beautiful, enormously big bi-annual fashion magazine was published in the UK, both myself (features ed) and Laury Smith the fashion editor were based out of LA. My job involved coming up with editorial stories, working closely with Laury throughout, producing the shoots and writing all the copy that went with the images.
Sadly the investors got badly hit in the recession and we went bust the week before going to print (leaving an entire, never to be published, magazine full of beautiful stories we'd produced!!

Camilla Arthur Casting LA

Casting director

I opened the LA office of Camilla Arthur Casting in January 2010; initially I had an office within the Flaunt magazine building in Hollywood, but by Christmas that year had moved into my own office. It hasn't been easy re-establishing myself in casting, but in a different country, with all new clients .... however since mid 2011, I have been getting more and more great jobs from UK and NYC based clients. I have been lucky to have cast 4 great campaigns for Silver Jeans, a number of different campaigns for American Apparel (video & stills) and the opportunity to work with Lipmans NYC on the 7FAM denim campaign as well as Yurman jewelry, shot by Peter Lindbergh. Equally I have been doing some great editorial recently - Italian Vogue, V magazine and Interview all with Ellen Von Unwerth, UK's 'Port' magazine, France's L'Optimum magazine and Katy England's 'Another Man' with the photographer Niall O'Brien.
As in London, my LA database of people scouted on the streets of LA includes an amazing selection - from traditional beauties, to more unusual & extreme looks - they all have, however, a fantastic personal style.....
