Brian grew up in Syracuse, New York. While there are things about his hometown he likes -- salt potatoes come to mind -- the ten-month winters and perpetually slate-gray skies eventually convinced him to move anywhere else.

He misspent part of his youth bartending and beach combing in Myrtle Beach before moving to Raleigh, North Carolina, where he began his writing career. His first paying job was an article about home brewing for the then nascent CitySearch.com. That led to a book called Fearless Brewing, which netted him surprisingly little despite being published in several countries and remaining in print to this day.

In 1999, he relocated to New York City, where he found work as a freelance writer, a financial reporter, a tech marketing writer who launched IBM's very first e-business site, and finally an advertising copywriter. He has worked on an array of clients in a plethora of industries, churning out a cornucopia of creative work that has netted an avalanche of awards.

He wrote this, but refuses to make a cheap joke about the awkwardness of referring to himself in the third person. Read Less
