As a photographer, Benjamin Perlin focuses on capturing images through mechanical cameras and the traditional medium of the darkroom. He believes that digital technology is no replacement for the craftsmanship employed in creating images through the physical chemistry of darkroom printing. Benjamin Perlin finds the physical imprint of actual light on silver halide far superior to any digital representation of that light.

A Nashville resident, Mr. Perlin maintains an active volunteer presence through Habitat for Humanity ReStore, which sells donated used building materials and furnishings at a fraction of their retail value. He sorts and inventories items as they arrive and assists customers with in-store purchases.

He also contributes his volunteer efforts to the Tennessee State Veterans Home in Murfreesboro, where he spends time listening to veterans tell their stories. Mr. Perlin also engages with residents through games such as blackjack, poker, and chess. Read Less
