My intent as a sculptor is to explore materials, studio process, and form. The materials I choose to engage with embody characteristics that provide unpredictable working experiences. The malleability of clay, the strength of steel, and the natural beauty of wood are individual qualities that I appreciate and respect. When these opposing qualities are paired, it creates a dialogue that greatly interests me as an artist. I believe these inherent attributes are what make these materials exist so well together. In my work, I wish to facilitate communication between different materials by integrating them within a sculpture.
I want to construct sculptures that exhibit my reverence for materials through studio processes as well as my appreciation for three-dimensional form. My hope is that the beauty of these combined materials will enable the viewer to share this appreciation. Read Less
