Masking tape is a common everyday product. It was used as the medium to make a replica of a pair of Converse shoes. It being the only material used the shoe had to made in sections starting with the soul and then working up and ending with the laces. Before beginning the masking tape shoe a paper shoe was made as a “rough draft” to help create the best method of how to execute the tape shoe. Layers of tape were placed over the bottom of the shoe to create the effects and indentations on the bottom of the shoe by drawing into the tape. The piece was broken up into 5 sections: the soul, the rubber that surrounds the outer edge of the soul, the two canvas sides, and the tongue. Folding and layering the tape on top of one another, and then attaching them to each other made the sections. The flat styled laces were just one piece of tape folded into it. Small details were added in the end such as the tabs that would have the products brand name on it and the pieces that go around the shoelace holes.
