InEight Estimate-Feature Request
The request from the Product Owner was to allow an estimator to verify the assembly he is trying to add before he plugs in the details to avoid overtime.

I analyzed the problem in hand using various research techniques: brain storm with product owner/manager, white boarding, questionnaire to the end user, perform A/B test of the mock designs to arrive at the final solution.

Below is a glimpse of the journey.

Proposed solution
Step 1 The user is expected to choose the assembly. He is prompted with the specification of the chosen assembly and also the related assemblies so he can make the decision before proceeding to the next step. If the user chooses to click on the specification images from the related cost item assemblies section, the specification image changes to reflect the chosen specification and also the user selection changes so that the user will not have to waste time in searching for the right specification.
Step 2 After the user has chosen the right specification, he can proceed to step 2 to plug in the details and verify the cost of the related resources involved and check the calculations before adding the assembly to the project. The user can customize the calculations or any related resource value to fit the project needs.
