SCIENCE × ART
To convert something mundane into something that would become a preference, I chose to work with something academic that has a definite impact on students. Having my own sister studying in tenth grade currently, I got the opportunity to closely study the effect of a simple visual on young teenagers. Taking the idea forward and studying the text book covers of tenth grade made me realize that visuals need not necessarily leave a positive impact in the first glance. Hence, I chose to work with a typical state board science textbook after carefully examining why the existing visuals were not successful. Aiming at creation of a cover that would leave the students intrigued, I created a text book sleeve by using the already existing diagrams in the syllabus.

We often forget that even though the students are in “tenth grade”, they are yet just fifteen years old. A part of them is always going to be amused by the visuals right on their front page. Apart from that, the color study also made me think of the psychological effects that one might have after seeing the visuals in the first glance. Using the existing diagrams, I did not tamper with the scientific importance of the content, yet tried to incorporate my own style and understanding into it. Thank You!
