Enhancing Navigation in ProjectHub - UX Hypothesis

About ProjectHub:
ProjectHub is a Project Management Application that mainly serves users from Science & Research Labs. When the user explained the flow, I identified a challenge in the navigation process. Users, including project managers, and scientists, often find it difficult to navigate from programs to specific experiments, insights, and decisions. This difficulty in navigation reduces their productivity and slows down project progress, impacting the overall efficiency of the application.
About Problem:
Users face a time-consuming process when navigating to specific experiments within a program (Project is referred to as Program). The current navigation flow requires users to navigate through multiple levels, including selecting the program, objectives, deliverables, and finally the experiments. This lengthy navigation path causes frustration and inefficiency, leading to difficulty in accessing and managing experiments effectively within the application.
Project Goals:
1. Streamline the navigation process within the application to reduce the time it takes for users to access specific items within programs.
2. Enhance user satisfaction and efficiency by simplifying the journey from program selection to experiment viewing, leading to improved user engagement and productivity.

Solution - Enhancing the Search Functionality:
If we enhance the search functionality by adding tags to search results, indicating the type of item (such as program, objective, deliverable, experiment, or insight / decision), then we will see an improvement in navigation efficiency because it will provide users with clear hint about the nature of the search results, helping them quickly identify and access relevant information within the application. Also, along with this adding a breadcrumb in each result helps the user to find the location of the specific item.
Advantages:
1. Easy to find: Users can quickly locate relevant information with clear tags & breadcrumbs in search results.
2. Time-saving: Clear tags help users save time by quickly identifying the type of item they are looking at.
Disadvantages:
1. Remembering Keywords: Users may struggle to remember specific words from item titles while searching, leading to frustration.
2. Overloaded Interface: The addition of tags and breadcrumbs could clutter the search results interface, making it visually overwhelming and potentially harder to navigate for some users.
Conclusion:
By adding tags and breadcrumbs to the search function, ProjectHub will be easier to navigate. We expect users to spend 30% less time searching for items and to be 25% more satisfied with their experience. However, there might be a 15% increase in initial confusion due to a more complex interface, which can be reduced with good onboarding and design improvements.
